screen prints on ceramics

These are four prints i did on ceramic slabs. I made a silk screen from a photograph of one of my collarges of the Downs. I then printed this in different colour, thin glazes on to white clay slabs. I then etched into each slab and brushed in an iron oxide, which shows up as the dark lines in the grooves of my etched marks. I then did reverse mono-printing on to the images to build up colour by painting a think layer of slips on to torn pieces of paper and pressing this on to the image ( paper that stuck burnt off in firing). I finnally glazed the whole thing with a matt glaze, and once this was fired, used copper or gold leaf where there was once a windmill in the origional photograph.

screen prints

I scanned the origional prints in and the scanner turned them these horrible bright colours. in REAL life they are much more subtle, i dont like to use the word "pastel" but i will. but this is how the photograph screen printed directly on to paper..... I prefer the images on clay.

I began making this tiny sculpture, but it i neglected it for a day and it dried too fast and fell apart, so i decided to go much bigger.
